I will not vote for you if you are heartless
I don’t have a job. It’s not because I don’t want one, or haven’t tried to find one. There just aren’t any employers who have decided to hire me since I was laid off. That means I don’t currently pay any income tax.
It really, really hurts my feelings when someone who wants to be my president says that I don’t matter to him because I haven’t got any money to pay into the system right now. It makes me sad that people like me, people who are ill, people who are retired, people who are down on their luck, or people who just sometimes can’t get it together would be categorized as irrelevant.
Shouldn’t I be entitled to have food, a roof over my head, medicine when I am sick, education when I am ignorant, safety when I am threatened, and help when I am weak? Shouldn’t we all?
Don’t we have a duty to love and care for one another? Does it really make you poorer to give what you have to those who have nothing? Have we really landed in a world where the worth of a human being is equated with their net worth?
I really hope not. I really, really hope not. But for now all I can do is feel sad that this is how cynical politics has become.
