Star and Scribe FAQ

There haven’t been chapters for a few weeks. Where did the story go?

For those of you following Star and Scribe (thanks, by the way!) not to worry. The story hasn’t gone anywhere, it’s just being filled out and revised. I intend for Act One of the story to conclude after Chapter Twelve or so, and will publish a PDF of the revised first part for your reading enjoyment. Or mockery.

Why did you bundle and revise the story now, after we’ve already been reading it? Why not just wait until the story is done and publish it then?

A couple of reasons. I think it’s kind of fun to let y’all follow the writing process as it happens, and I’ve appreciated the feedback I’ve gotten from my readers. (Wow, I can say readers as in more than one!) I do wish that commentary was offered in the comments section and not in e-mails, as I think blogs offer an interesting possibility for collaborative criticism of fiction. That would also mean that I can read your responses to the more charming comments e-mailed to me, such as “UR STORY SUXX UR BLOG SHOLD DIE.”

And to be honest, I’m also just making this stuff up as I go along, and I want to go back and fix and expand things to make the story better.

Why are you blogging a novel anyway?

I want to bring back serial fiction. This was real big in the 19th century, and it’s kind of fun to take back serial storytelling from television and put it back in print. Er, hypertext, that is. I also get to be evil by having some sadistic control over the reader as far as their ability to find out what happens next.

So when is the next part coming out?

Soon, my minions, soon. Thanks to those of you who have asked. I never actually had the idea that anybody would care, and the fact that some of you do is awfully nice.

I will wait patiently for the next 45 minutes and then attack in frustration.
Warn the rest of Castro St., would you?
