I'm Lucky.

I really can’t complain.

I have everything I could need right now. Shoot, I have almost everything I want and that’s a lot more than most people can say. I have so much food that I have to worry about not getting fat, never starving. I live a life of comfort and privilege and don’t really have much to bother me. There are some complaints, sure. My lungs still haven’t healed 100% and I’m probably spending too much time worrying that my voice will never be the same. There are things that I’d like to achieve for myself which I still haven’t, but that’s my own fault. But overall, life is very, very good and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else right now.

I’m finally getting to see more things that I’ve always wanted to see. This weekend I got to see the cliffs of Big Sur and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. (It’s nice having someone from out of town to give me the chance to do some sightseeing!) I got to eat salt water taffy on the boardwalk and laugh at the fact that absolutely none of the street layout on the Monterey Peninsula makes any kind of sense.

Salt air always washes my mind clean, and getting to see the ocean every day as well as living in a peaceful, beautiful home with really great friends has given a big jolt to my creativity. The time I give to work and friends mean that I have to make better use of my writing time, but the scribbles I have been managing to put down are improving because of this. I’m getting better at recognizing when one of my ideas was bad, or good but just not right. Scratching out ideas I’ve worked hard on is painful, but you’ve got to prune down hard sometimes if you want good fruit at the end of the season.

In the meantime, I’m enjoying the ride on a big cloud of happy and hope I don’t have to be set down any time soon. Just this weekend was so fun. I can’t believe that in just over a month I get to go to Ireland. I’m blown away at how fortunate I am.
